Texas Woman鈥檚 graduate student receives second International Peace Scholarship

July 21, 2021 鈥 DENTON 鈥 Elizabeth Timothy, a 尘补蝉迟别谤鈥檚 student in the Texas Woman鈥檚 University Multicultural Women鈥檚 and Gender Studies Program, has been awarded the Philanthropic Educational Organization鈥檚 prestigious for the second year in a row. 

The International Peace Scholarship Fund provides scholarships for graduate study in North America to select women from countries outside of the United States and Canada.

Timothy鈥檚 award will allow her to continue pursuing her studies at TWU and develop two projects that support underserved women in Kenya. 鈥淚 assist women by raising funds that will allow them to grow small businesses, which will then become an ongoing source of income to pay for necessities like food and health care for their families,鈥 Timothy said. She also recruits high school graduates who show academic promise and provides them with financial aid to attend college. The program has already placed eight girls in colleges across Kenya.

Timothy holds a bachelor鈥檚 degree in theology and a 尘补蝉迟别谤鈥檚 degree in development from St. Paul鈥檚 University, Kenya. Prior to enrolling at TWU, she served on the faculty at Moffat Bible College and Scott Christian University in Kenya. Her research interests include women鈥檚 health, higher education, transfeminism, womanism and activism.

After completing her 尘补蝉迟别谤鈥檚 in Multicultural Women鈥檚 and Gender Studies at TWU, Timothy hopes to enroll in the department鈥檚 doctoral program. In addition to expanding her current projects, she plans to continue teaching and working with international nonprofits focused on women鈥檚 empowerment.
