Accounting grad’s focus pays off at competition

TWU accounting graduate Leslie Frias and her teammates secured second place out of 25 teams at the 2026 IIA Global Student Conference case competition in Orlando. Frias won a coveted CIA exam review package and overcame her fear of public speaking.

As an undergraduate, Emily Kraft shined in her accounting classes and won the Accounting Excellence Award her senior year from The Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants. The TXCPA presents the award to an outstanding accounting student at Texas colleges and universities who participate in Accounting Education Foundation programs.
TWU was strong attraction for Ecuadorian student

Romina Vargas-Trujillo will be graduating May 8 with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration with a double major: one in accounting and the other in finance. The attraction to Texas Woman’s University was strong enough to lure her more than 2,600 miles from her home in Quito, Ecuador.

Brooke Speights was one of 47 accounting students from across the state to receive the Accounting Excellence Award from The Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants. She graduated magna cum laude with a BBA in accounting from Texas Woman’s in May 2025 and is returning to Denton as a graduate student to pursue a master of science in accountancy.
